THE TREASURE BOX─

Keeping God in a box? Read on to see what our guest blogger, MELANEA D. WOOD, has to say about that.

Luke 11:33-34

33 “No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead he puts it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. 34 Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body also is full of darkness.

There is a shelf, upon which sits a tiny box.  The box is a vibrant red, dazzling with gold accents.  In this box, I hide my most prized possession.  From time to time, especially when I am lonely or sad, I will take the box from the shelf and open it, revealing its contents.  As I begin to smile again and feel I have a friend by my side, I close the box and carefully return it to its place on the shelf.

Lately, I have been checking the contents of my box, making sure they haven’t been stolen.  It would be such a horrible loss to lose the treasure in my box.

Since life comes from my treasure box, I will greet in the morning, if I’m not busy and tell it goodnight, if I think about it.   Very rarely, do I show this treasure to my children, my husband, or my friends.  Alternatively, course there is the one day a week that I put my treasure in my pocket and carry it with me.  I don’t want the people in the sacred place to catch me without my treasure.  Once home, it goes back on the shelf, waiting for me to need it again.

You see, my life has been that of keeping God in a box, making sure he’s always there, but never treasuring his presence until I need him.  Sure, I may pray a little in the morning and again when I tuck my girls in at night.  Of course, I take God to church, that’s where he resides, right?

As stated in Luke 11:33-34, Why would we hide a lamp, unless we don’t mind walking around in the darkness?  The only way to true happiness is to turn the tables and allow God to put us in HIS box.  When we abide in his presence and allow him to control our lives, then will we have a light that burns so brightly, that ALL those around us can see it.  When we have the mind of Christ, it shows.

Take the time today, tomorrow and everyday and spend it with God.  I promise, once we begin to show the world our “Treasure Box”, the world will seek the treasure we possess.
