So I filed for an Injunction…
No Contact Order. . . Injunction for Protective Order. . . Restraining Order . . . Call them what you will. Many victims of domestic violence are not even aware they are available to them. Many know they exist, but have been threatened to be killed if they involve “the law,” and that includes the Courts. And what is the most common statement made about an injunction? “It’s not worth the paper it’s written on.”
Well, if we stand strong and insist on using the injunction to the fullest extent of the law, it will work much better. That means if our abuser is ordered to never come closer than 500 feet to us, and he does, call 911 immediately. Explain to them you have a Protective Order and the batterer is nearby. Maybe you get a phone call from a friend that he’s been seen driving through the neighborhood, past the home you once shared together, and where you are now living─alone. Call 911. Tell them there has been a report of the perpetrator circling the house.
This also means YOU do not approach the other party. You do not call them, send third party messages or texts. You do not send them an e-mail. No contact means “NO CONTACT,” and it goes for both the abused as well as the abuser. If you are lax in maintaining the Injunction, you are putting yourself (and quite possibly others) in danger. Stay away. Drop all communication.
